Unsung Heroines in my neighbourhood Meme

Happy Women's day everyone!!

So my girlfriend asked members of a group on Facebook to talk about what they love about being a woman.
Here's my take. Please don't laugh :)

I am also thinking that we should continue this in a sort of Meme for international Women's day/month. You can tell us what you love about being a woman or
about a woman whose life/doings/resilience/achievements inspire/inspired you. It can be someone famous, it can be the little lady in your neighbourhood, it can be your grandaunt in the village. Tell us what it is about them that touches you and please if you can, one of these days please tell them.

It's hard to know you're a ogbonke Naija with your voice... apart from the "going to go" you said a few times. haha.

Nice post though :) You keep mentioning "softness" like almost 250 times. lol

  2. Your voice reminded me of Chimamanda Adichie. LOL @ "penis. Yes, I said that." Haha. There's nothing wrong with saying body parts. Penis, penis, penis. It's all good. It's just penis...lol.

About being a woman, I'm glad you like being a woman. I agree with L.D.P. You repeated it quite a number of times.

  3. You sound like one of my friends in Maryland. Are you sure you are not in the US? Your Voice post got me thinking about why I love being a woman For the life of me, I have never given it a thought, I just loved being a woman. I also love this Meme, I hope I get to do it too. I have many women who have inspired and keeps inspiring me everyday. My mom tops the list and maybe I dont appreciate her enough but whenever I seat down like a 3rd party and just view how far she has come and all she sacrificed, she is one of my unsung heroines.

A woman's voice is something else huh? I love Baritones oo but yep, the female voice is special.

My dear, today I was gisting with a friend and as I quoted my mom to her, I whispered to myself 'thank you Mom for the examples you have shown without even speaking'.

  4. I don't like being a "woman", sorry. However, I don't want to be any other gender in this life either, I'm happy I have found balance as a person. I think that is more important than being tied to the physicality or emotions of any particular one, and comparing it to "the other". Both men and women can learn softness or hardness as the case may be, and that is what I would teach my own daughters and younger women coming after me.

    1. Hmmmm. your response was a most surprising one Myne :D(for someone who loves romance and relationships which leverage on 'gendered differences'!).

Yes some do fall into the trap of comparing e.g. women are better cos we bear kids etc etc. For me that isnt progressive. These arguments miss the point that we are equal in dignity though serving different roles.

So I do agree with you that what's best is to find balance as a person inspite of the dictates of gender.

So you wont join CWO? lol

  5. Things I like about being a woman:
    - Feeling a child growing inside me - a man can never feel the same (for now)
    - Using my feminine charms to get my way
    - Being vulnerable and strong at the same time
The most inspirational women around me are women who overcome all challenges to be financially independent and ensure their dependents never lack

    1. Feminine charms or wiles lol.
Financial security is no mean feat o. I am always inspired by such women. Fiancial security has led many a woman into prostitution, bad amrriages so its so important!!

    1. You are on point Adura about what society needs: 'good human qualities to complement each other'.

  7. How lovely to hear your most beautiful, sweet voice, Ginger. As for being a woman, that word seems to car so much baggage -- expectations -- as opposed to the word "female" which is just stating a fact of gender. I don't think of myself as gender-specific other than my biology. Perhaps I'm denying that "softness" you speak of because I can't afford the vulnerability that comes with it. Your daughter will be lucky to have you as her mom. And thank you so much for posting my book on your site. Hugs!

    1. Thanks Jayne.

Jayne you are a bleeding heart, no need denying that :). And even though you dont have biological daughters I am sure there are people out there who you have touched and inspired because of your achievements as a women not just as a person.

As for female/woman..I saw this comment on line:

"I don't mind being called a woman. I HATE being called a "female." A cow is a female, a dog is a female, any fucking thing that produces eggs is a female. I find that term used in reference to a human very degrading".

I am a bit confused about what term to use to describe us!!

  9. I love being a woman for God made me a woman and He knows best.
I love being a woman because even though men are going to try to pretend they don't notice, they do when you achieve something they didn't think a woman could. And they are shocked. I like that.
I love being a woman because of all the fashion and shopping and beauty stuff I can enjoy, a man can't do that. Or the world would think he is gay.
I do say that the hardest thing to be in this world is a woman. But like Adura said, there are women whose lives are inspiring. I live with one, my mum.
And yeah i like my vejayjay too. Hehehe

Nne, you sound really cool ooo. Cheers dear.

  13. I love being a woman mainly because I have a quiet confidnece and strength that I know comes from being a woman. It is not a brute or necessarily physical strength, it is mostly in the head. A lot of people think it is a disadvantage or 'a bad super power that women have' but I love my cunning; the fact that I know I'm the sneakier gender (should the need arise) I know no man is a match for my wits, I love my fabled female intuition. I love my 'feminine wiles'. The fact that I can press up against most men (gay men excluded) and whisper naughty things to them and make them putty in my hands. These, more than my physical attributes, make me a woman. Being a woman is a powerful thing and I don't think we exploit our powers to the maximum. Wars have been fought over women. Wars have ended over women. Check out Liberia when the women refused to give up the pussy, the men started to act right. That is power right there. And that is why I love being a woman

  14. You go girl!! and Hi5 to sneakier gender lol. I sometimes marvel at my thoughts and machinations.
